Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest way to convert HEIC to JPG on a Mac?

Select the photos in Finder, right-click and choose Quick Actions → Convert Image, then pick JPEG. It converts several photos at once and saves the JPGs next to the originals.

Does converting delete the HEIC original?

No. Both Finder’s Convert Image and Preview’s Export make a new JPG file and leave the HEIC photo as it is.

Why do my iPhone photos arrive on my Mac as HEIC?

iPhones save photos as HEIC by default to use about half the space. Macs open HEIC fine, so they’re only a problem when you send them to Windows, Android or a website that wants JPG.

Can I convert HEIC to JPG on a Mac without the Photos app?

Yes. Finder and Preview both work on files, and BananaFast’s HEIC to JPG tool works in any browser without installing anything.
