Why image format matters for your website
Images are usually the heaviest part of a web page. Smaller images mean pages appear faster, which visitors notice and Google measures through its Core Web Vitals. Converting large JPGs to WebP is one of the simplest speed wins.
Tips
- Resize first: a 4000-pixel photo is far bigger than any screen needs. About 1920 px wide is plenty for full-width images.
- Keep descriptive file names (like
blue-ceramic-mug.webp); they help image search.
