How to use it

You’ll edit the image several times and don’t want quality to drop with each save
You’re adding the image to a design that will be exported as PNG anyway

If you just want a smaller or sharper photo, converting to PNG won’t help. Trycompressing or resizing instead.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. A PNG can’t restore detail a JPG has already lost. It does stop the image from losing more quality if you edit and save it again.

Will the background become transparent?

No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG will have the same solid background. Removing a background is a separate editing step.

Why is the PNG so much bigger?

PNG stores every pixel exactly, so photos converted to PNG are typically several times larger than the JPG.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Conversion happens in your browser, on your device.
