Where a 200 KB target comes from

Web teams often ask for much less than the hard upload limit, so that pages with several photos stay quick. One example, checked October 30, 2026:

Resize first, then compress

A very large photo has to lose a lot of quality to reach 200 KB. Set a width under “Resize” first (for example 1,200 pixels for an image in a page column), and the tool can keep the quality higher. Always check the limit on the site you’re uploading to, since it may differ.

Need a different limit? Try 100 KB, 300 KB, 500 KB or any size.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image to 200 KB?

Add it and press Compress. The tool keeps the highest quality that fits under 200 KB.

Is 200 KB good enough quality for a website?

Usually, yes, for a photo up to about 1,200 pixels wide. If it looks soft, reduce the width first so the quality setting can stay higher.

Should I use JPEG or WebP?

Both work in every current browser. WebP is often smaller at the same quality; JPEG is safest if a site or app only accepts JPG.

Can I do a whole folder at once?

Yes. Add up to 100 images, or drop a folder, and download them all as a ZIP.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so your photos stay on your computer.
