Where 300 KB limits come from

Some university web teams use 300 KB as the everyday limit for photos. Two examples, checked October 30, 2026:

Resize first, then compress

A very large photo has to lose a lot of quality to reach 300 KB. Set a width under “Resize” first (for example 1,200 pixels for an image in a page column), and the tool can keep the quality higher. Always check the limit on the site you’re uploading to, since it may differ.

Need a different limit? Try 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB or any size.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress an image to 300 KB?

Add it and press Compress. The tool keeps the highest quality that fits under 300 KB.

Is 300 KB small enough for a website?

For most photos, yes. Thumbnails and pages with many images can go lower, and 150 KB is a common target for those.

Should I use JPEG or WebP?

Both work in every current browser. WebP is often smaller at the same quality; JPEG is safest if a site or app only accepts JPG.

Can I do a whole folder at once?

Yes. Add up to 100 images, or drop a folder, and download them all as a ZIP.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so your photos stay on your computer.
